- Volunteering increases self-confidence and happiness -

Istituto Istruzione Superiore has a number of initiatives to develop students’ fund raising skills and to encourage students to become active citizens in their local community and beyond. As a student, it’s easy to get caught up in own life, between studies, scholarship search, extracurricular activities and, of course, avid social life.So we should take some time to pause and reflect on what we’re thankful for.

Every year during the most important Italian Holidays : Christmas and Easter a group of students , accompanied by teachers, go to social canteen to help to deliver food to homeless.

They spend a week and that’s what they said after this experience:
“My week volunteering was intense, this experience took us out into the community to provide food, water and other basics to people in needs. This put me face to face with the realities of homelessness, the week was deeply rewarding and inspiring. Spending time with staff and volunteers, who are doing truly remarkable work to help the most vulnerable members of our community, was a gift. And some of my conversations with ‘s clients helped to improve my own understanding of the issues facing people in the area.

Personally, all this week I’ve been more open to giving my time and lending a helping hand to others, even to complete strangers. It’s nice to know that volunteering may make you happier, and more giving too.”

“Volunteering increases self-confidence. Volunteering can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction, to help others can really lift your mood. You are doing good for others and the community,. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity. And the better you feel about yourself, the more likely you are to have a positive view of your life and future goals. As school we take part to Teleton activity with stalls to different shopping center to raise money for this organization. During Christmas time we also held a concert in the main square of the town ,sell traditional sweets and collect money to buy food to deliver to poor people .”

Volunteering can make you happier too. Students have found that regular volunteering may serve to boost your happiness and overall well-being by promoting physical activity, social interactions, and a deep sense of fulfillment that comes from making a contribution. There’s an added benefit from being in a better frame of mind – it puts you in a more giving mindset since happier people are more inclined to do kind acts for others. .
