THE PROJECT | LTTA Activities | Mobility Italia: 11th – 16tieth of october 2015

Ltta Italy: Final Reports

The LTTA in Italy held from  12th to 16th October 2015 involved all the partners of the project.

The main objectives of the LTTA in Italy were essentially three:

-meditate on the widespread use of technology, pointing out in particular its positive aspects;

- get to know different local working realities;

- understanding the value of volunteering.

As regards the first objective, the students, together with their Italian mates,  spent two mornings in the laboratories of the school working on the building of a web site

Great interest the students and the teachers showed  during the visit to some local factories.

The first one was specialized in the production of wine. The visit was of great interest for the Spanish students in particular, who attend an enology school; the owners were very kind and answered to all their questions, giving them the possibility  to compare the different techniques used in Italy and Spain.  It was an enriching experience for all of them.

The visit ended, of course, with a taste of the different types of wine produced.

The second experience at a factory, included in a day trip to Tropea-Pizzo,  concerned the production of “Nduja”, a typical Calabrian dish made up of pork, fat, entrails  and chilly pepper. It is eaten spread on the bread, added to the tomato sauce or on the pizza. We all were amazed in front of the huge ndujas we could see ( 25 kilos ndujas!!!) and after assisting at the process f production, almost all of us enjoyed a taste of it.

Then they went to” Oleificio  Delia “ a factory where  olive oil is made . they

The third objective was volunteering.

As everyone knows, in the last few years Europe and in particular Italy is facing the sad problem of migration: hundreds of people from different Countries cross the Mediterranean on old boats and in unhealthy and unsafe conditions and land in Calabria. The students had the possibility to visit a homeless shelter in Reggio Calabria. The previous days we collected some food and shoes to bring there and handed to  Mrs Bruna Mangiola,the person in charge of the office . she  explained  how they help vulnerable migrants to feel protected, safe, informed and supported so that they are able to move forward with their lives. It was a moving experience for all  of us.

This day trip was eriched with the visit of the surprising Bronzi di Riace, housed in the city museum, and of the small village, Pentedattilo,  which takes its name from the Greek penta+daktylos, meaning five fingers, because it looks like a cycloptic hand with five fingers.

But d uring the week spent in Itlay, students developed other  skills important in their life as “Happy Europeans”.They interacted with and learned from people who are different from themselves and  participated in new and unique experiences beyond their own communities. This experience  assisted students to develop positive relationships with others, understand a broader range of perspectives, and develop the knowledge and skills needed for participation in our multicultural society.

On the  last day of the  week, we gave out a questionnaire  to know the outcome of the   mobility in Italy. The results of the questionnaire will be uploaded on the>Ready>set>go web page.

On the whole we can sum up that the meeting resulted to be positive, enriching and motivating.

The visit provided the opportunity to Know different cultures and ways of life, improve the communication in a foreign language , develop new skills,  challenge beliefs, build tolerance and understand the way conflict can arise through prejudice. It was also an opportunity for teenagers from really different backgrounds to just hang out together in a safe and supportive environment.
